‘I’m not sure I can think of any scenario more enjoyable than making 55,000 people from New York shut up.’ ~Curt Schilling

Last night, on a bad ankle and with blood oozing through his his sock, he did just that. He made them shut up. He gave up only one run over seven innings. Yeah the Yankees may pull it out tonight. They could still beat the Sox. But after last night, no matter what happens, the Red Sox certainly have reason to be proud of themselves. Until last night, no Major League Baseball team has ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series. The Sox took the first step toward doing that last night. And Curt Schilling has achieved the status of Baseball Hero.
The Evil Empire did not take it well.
The game was held up for 10 minutes while fans tossed debris on the field and Torre argued. Gary Sheffield then fouled out, ending the inning.
After Boston’s Cabrera was ruled safe at first base in the ninth, preventing the Yankees from completing a double play, public address announcer Bob Sheppard made his second announcement for fans to maintain order. Helmeted police then came on the field and knelt in foul territory along the stands on both the left- and right-field sides in the top of the ninth.
They had to be reminded twice to settle down. Then there was the schoolyard tactics exhibited by Rodriguez as he crassly slapped away a ball that was in play, to prevent being tagged out. Then he had a temper tantrum when he was called out for interference.
Tonight the drama continues. My nerves are shot at this point, but I’ll be watching. But no matter what happens this season, after what I’ve seen this year, I can say without hesitation that the Red Sox are my team. I’m truly proud of them.
Go Sox!
