My Life in Boxes
Jul 27th, 2005 by lisa
These days my life, apart from work, consists of eating, sleeping and putting things into boxes. If there were ever a competition for assembling, filling and sealing boxes I’d probably do quite well.
I’d much rather be taking things out of boxes. That usually means I’ve been shopping - and I love shopping - and have brought home packages of bright shiny new things. Shopping online or from catalogs brings boxes to your door. There’s always a feeling of anticipation while opening those packages, even if you already know what’s in them.
I suppose that’s what it will be like when we’ve moved into our new home. But instead of new things, it will be familiar and loved things greeted with the anticipation of life in new surroundings… even though I already know what’s in them.
Yes, I’d much rather be taking things out of boxes. In this case, a new life in a new place. I’m packing up my old life and when I unpack it again, it will have been transformed into a new life.
That beats shopping any day.
