Lunch in Manchester
May 7th, 2006 by lisa
Paul and I went to Manchester yesterday for lunch and a look around.
We started at the Shaskeen Irish Pub and enjoyed some very fine food and a pleasant atmosphere. They have Smithwick’s on tap which is always a good thing. The beef stew was heavenly and I left feeling very satisfied and sleepy.
So of course we went for a walk.
Paul wanted me to see where he works, so we headed over to the McLane offices which are right next to Manchester City Hall. There’s a monument to a Brigadier General John Stark outside city hall, and the amusing thing (to me anyway) about it was that he seems to be pointing the way to Shaskeen. I don’t know whether he intends to attack it or defend it, but either way it’s a direction I can wholly endorse myself.
I was glad to find that Manchester is a very nice small city, as Paul has to go there to work every day. I know we’ll be going back there again, maybe to see the Fisher Cats play, or take in another Monarchs game. If nothing else, we’ll definitely be visiting Shaskeen again.
