How I Spent My Afternoon Off
Aug 18th, 2006 by lisa
It was the first game of a double-header between the Red Sox and the Yankees. I camped out on the couch with a glass of wine, a bar of chocolate, my Sox hat and my cell phone. Paul, who is at work, asked for updates on the game. So I text-messaged him the relevant details.
Lisa: Tied at one. Sox did have the bases loaded but did nothing with it… as usual.
Paul: You almost sound like a lifelong sox fan.
Lisa: Er, now it’s 3-1 yankees.
Paul: Still losing?
Lisa: 5th inning - 4-1 yanks. Grrrrr! I’m finding other things to do, but
have the tv on in case anything happens.
Paul: Ugh. Thanks for the update.
Lisa: Manny hit a home run - 4-2 now.
Lisa: 6th inning - 4-3 - a weak glimmer of hope begins in my heart *sigh*
Paul: Thanks for the update. Watch out. that glimmer is when they kill you. ;-D
Lisa: No kidding. Now it’s 8-3. I think they just killed me… lol.
Lisa: Top of the ninth - 10-3 - I give up… lol. Better luck next game!
Lisa: Final 12-4 - sitting here like an idiot with my rally cap on and a
broken heart.
Paul: Welcome to red sox nation. The good thing is you have many others with you.
Yeah, I’m in good company. Hopefully the next game will be better.
Go Sox! Dammit.

Do I have to wait for the rest of the yankee series to declare the sox toast for this year… At least they won in 2004.
