This tree is gone. It’s on my route to work everyday, and I always thought it was beautiful. I realized it was not a healthy tree, as the top half never had any leaves, and that it was probably going to come down at some point. I guess the town decided it was time. It was lying on it’s side when I passed it one day last week, and I could see that the center of the trunk was rotting. It could have fallen and hurt someone, so they removed it. I’m glad I was able to get a few photos of it last year.
Last Monday I made some sandwiches, Paul pulled the camp chairs out of the the closet and we watched the Labor Day Parade pass by our house.
Later that day we moved our living room into the back bedroom. It’s much quieter and cozier back there and now we have more storage space, because we are using the room formerly-known-as-living for storage. The couch didn’t fit, but the comfy chairs did. We’ve made a little nest where we can read, eat and watch movies in peace and quiet, undisturbed by our obnoxious neighbors.
The rest of the week passed by in a most routine manner.
Speaking of movies, I finally saw Big Fish, which I have been wanting to see ever since it came out, and loved it. It was beautiful and sweet. Albert Finney is a remarkable actor. I have the book out from the library and will read it when I get a chance - hopefully soon. I’ve also finally seen V for Vendetta which stared out ‘okay’, got ‘better’ in the middle and ended up being a really fantastic movie. We as a nation seem to be slowly losing our freedom in the name of ’security’ and ’safety’ and this fear was strongly echoed in this movie. If you let others control your life, you will end up living in fear. It was interesting to see a return to a dystopian theme in this film by the Wachowski’s, the creators of the Matrix trilogy.
My neice is getting married next Saturday, and I’m depressed that I will not be there to celebrate this happy occasion with her. But I know she will be surrounded by family and many, many friends and it will be a wonderful day for her. Hopefully Paul and I will get out there for a visit early next year.

I haven’t seen Big Fish, but I read the book, and it’s very, very good indeed. You have a treat in store!
