An Afternoon Walk
May 14th, 2007 by lisa
After lunch today, Paul and I decided to take a stroll up the trail through Hitchiner Town Forest.
Everything is so unbelievable green and fresh right now. I know it’s because of all the rain we had recently, and all the unfortunate flooding. What is not good for homes and roads is very, very good for the trees and other flora.
We found several old stone walls (as you can find all over New England), and one very large stone that had holes drilled in a line. We speculated on what it might be, but really have no idea.
We are planning to go back soon, because we didn’t actually reach the highlight of the trail. As this hike was an after-lunch impulse, we were not as prepared as we might have been. Without a map we didn’t know how far the trail went, so we turned back before reaching Burns Hill.
There is a lovely meadow and picnic area. It might be nice to take lunch up there sometime and then maybe hike afterward. Something to do another day.
