Through the Looking Glass

I’ve been thinking a lot (okay ‘obsessing’) about the Lost finale Wednesday night. I have a couple of thoughts…
These are some ideas I have written in a mostly random order. I am making no claims that I have the answers. I’m just thinking…
1. The future with Jack and Kate in it, is the result of whatever happens after the rescue. What we will be seeing in the remaining shows is Jack trying to figure out how to get back to the island - back to just before the rescue and change things so the future will come out differently. It’s already been demonstrated on the show that time is malleable, things can be ‘done-over’ (see Flashes Before Your Eyes) and the island may actually exist in a different dimension from the ‘real world’. (Not discounting the idea that the island is actually the real world and everything else is just an illusion created on the island. Gah!)
2. The island is giving everyone a chance to come to terms with their messed-up lives, find redemption, make peace with themselves and move on. Once they accomplish this they die, thus leaving the island. I have no thoughts on where they go after they die. The producers have already stated the the island is not hell nor purgatory. I’m still not sure about this, because there have been some deaths that were not preceded by redemption. But there does seem to be some redemptive theme running throughout the storyline.
3. Jacob is the original inhabitant of the island and may have created the entire thing out of his mind. Somehow he has become trapped in his own creation and is continually trying to bring people to him so he can get help freeing himself.
4. The man in the coffin is apparently named ‘Jeremy Bentham’ according to people with better eyesight than me. Jeremy Bentham is a real historical person, however I think this is probably a pseudonym taken on by one of the survivors/rescuees. (Jack says he’s tired of lying. Lying about who he is and what happened?) I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that it’s Ben. But I really have no clue.
5. The group on the ship that is ‘not Penny’s boat’ is the Dharma Initiative come to reclaim the island. They have been unable to find it because of Ben jamming transmissions off the island.
6. I think Penny’s father is behind the Dharma Initiative.
7. Locke, Rose, Jin and Ben have all been healed, not to Mention Mikhail. Some people stay dead, some don’t. Does the island’s magnetic properties have healing powers? Can it bring people back from the dead? Why some and not others?
8. What’s the deal with the giant statue with four toes? Juliet jokingly mentions aliens to Sawyer. Please tell me that’s not going to be the answer. Yeesh!
Okay, my brain hurts. I’m gonna stop now.
What you do you think?
