Thirteen to One

I walked to the center of town this morning, to take care of some business at the bank. I witnessed folks greeting each other like this:
“Thirteen to one!” and then grinning hugely at each other. The Nation is in a good mood today.
If you live anywhere outside New England, this may seem cryptic. So lemme ’splain. Our beloved Red Sox opened the World Series last night with three strikeouts followed by a home run. That was only the first inning. It just kept getting better after that. Beckett’s pitching was pure magic… a work of art… a thing of beauty to behold. He kept the Rockies at bay, so our bats could work their own magic.
While walking down West Street, I passed by a woman, who saw my Boston hat and broke into a huge smile. In a very thick accent she said, “You see da game las night? Thirteen to one, ah? Beautiful!”
Maybe they’ll sweep again. Good lord, it’s possible isn’t it? Game two is tonight. We’ll see…

Um, OK, so you’re talking about baseball, right? The score sounds more like basketball. How cool that it’s causing such happy moods!!!
