Because We All Need to Get Some Sleep

While it would be nice to see the Red Sox win the World Series at home, I don’t think that will be necessary. It’s not just that we believe the Rockies have already lost, they look like they believe they’ve already lost, and that is far more important. And then there’s the towels. Give me a break already. No More Towels. I was relieved when we beat Cleveland, naively thinking that annoyance had passed. But then we go to Denver and… oh noes! more stupid towels!
It would also be nice to see Jon Lester pitch the winning game tonight.
As strong as the Rockies are, they pale in comparison to the opponent Lester had to beat to get here — and that’s not the Cleveland Indians. A year ago at this point, Lester was still undergoing chemotherapy to attack a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Just three months have passed since Lester rejoined the Red Sox’s rotation. What a comeback that would be. Not only to have beaten cancer and returned to baseball, but then to pitch the winning game that brings the Red Sox their second championship in four years. That would a nice thing to see.
And on a purely selfish level, these late nights are killing us. Paul is working a lot of overtime right now, and it would be nice if he could get some regular sleep this week. As for me, I’m just getting to old too stay up late anymore.
The Sox need to finish their sweep tonight, so they can come home and we can all celebrate once again.
