Fun and Frustration

The Fun:
Today was the Red Sox parade in Boston. It was televised on FOX, but Paul had to go to work today. Last time they won, it was a Saturday and we watched the parade together. Today I planned on taking mini-movies of highlights of the parade, so he can watch them at a later time. The coverage began at 10:00am and the parade started at noon.
So I donned my Red Sox shirt, and armed with the camera, a sammich, bowl of chips and a glass (or two) of chardonnay, I plunked myself down in front of the teevee and got ready to record. The weather was beautiful, the parade was awesome, Boston went crazy, and Red Sox Nation had fun. I now have 562 megabytes of videos to sort through, and hopefully burn onto a dvd for later viewing.
The Frustration:
I sat down at the computer to email Paul, and discovered I had no internet connection. So I took a long nap. I’m sure I could have found other things to do, but I was too busy sulking at my inability to go online to settle down and do anything worthwhile, so I slept. It occurred to me that this was very childish behavior indeed, but I consoled myself by burrowing further into pillow and blankets and wallowing in a stubborn lack of initiative.
It’s a bit scary how unsettled I become when I can’t access the internet. It’s absurd, but there you are. No email, no news, I can’t check the weather or chat with Paul. And for gods sake, what in the world am I supposed to do if some meaningless trivial question pops into my head? How am I supposed to look it up? I get very upset and unhappy. It only happens when I can’t access the web that I suddenly feel a desperate urge to do so.
It’s not unlike when the water gets shut off for some reason, and suddenly I find that I am parched. Or we get low on food in the fridge and pantry, and suddenly I’m starving. I’m sure it’s the same phenomena. Human nature. You can’t have it, so of course you must have it now.
Does anyone else experience this?
