Between Storms

Thursday was cold and it snowed… a lot. Massachusetts had it worse than we did, with folks taking several hours to get home. On the evening news, I watched footage of highways and bridges that looked like parking lots. Paul was supposed to work late that night, but ended up being sent home early. It only took him about an hour and a quarter to get home. It usually takes him about half an hour. That wasn’t too bad, and the important thing is he arrived home safely.
I simply watched the snow fall all day, and enjoyed the peace and quiet after the high school let out early. I was mostly alone in my building till late in the evening and it was quite a treat to have some genuine quiet for a few hours.
Tonight we are supposed to get another storm, this one a nor’easter that promises to dump lots of snow followed by freezing rain and sleet. In other words, the area will become one big ice skating rink. Oh joy. I prefer snow to ice, but who doesn’t? We did our shopping last night and this morning, so we’re all set to stay inside for the duration. Paul may sneak out in the morning to get the paper, but otherwise we’ll be inside.
I love snow and I love winter. I’ll enjoy it even more when we are living in our own house. But for now, I’ll enjoy it the way I can… with hot chocolate, warm blankets and football on the teevee. I bought our cards today at the bookstore, and we’ll need to get those ready to go out. Plus, A Christmas Story arrived from Netflix today. I’ll watch that a couple of times before I send it back. It’s just not Christmas without it.

I love watching the snow fall too. It gives me a peaceful feeling and I take time out to wonder about the beauty of nature.
